Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 325° F (170° C).
  2. Cover dates with baking soda and water. Let stand until cool.
  3. Cream together shortening, eggs and sugar. Combine both mixtures and beat well.
  4. Add flour, baking soda, vanilla extract, pure cocoa and chocolate chips. Pour into a parchment lined 9” x 13” pan.
  5. Mix topping ingredients and spread over cake batter. Bake at 325° F (170° C) for 40 minutes.
Tips

Use Chocolaty Temptation Cupcakes Mix to make the batter and slash prep time!

In place of a cake, make individual cupcakes or mini loaves using Epicure's Muffin Maker or Mini Loaf Pans.
